Description from maker

I spent a long time thinking about what queer joy means for me, and about the people that this quilt would eventually be going to. The best way I could think to express queer joy through fabric was to use fabric from clothes if made for myself, but I couldn’t find a way to fit that into a ‘traditional’ quilt block, as much as I love them. I wrote a lot of notes trying to find a way of doing this block that felt right to me!; It was important for me to put something together that really felt true to me. I didn’t want to send something that had been sewn just for the sake of it, I really wanted it to be a piece of me; I was originally going to crumb quilt a block and then use that to make pinwheels, but I was playing around with an idea I had for inter-generational, cross country memory quilts and started weaving strips together - if I’d had enough usable strips I would have done the whole block that way!
