Description from maker

I based my pattern off off a past pattern I had created for a pillow. It is inspired by drunkards path because one of my most favorite historical quilts is created by Lucy T. Pettway from Gees Bend, and is a drunkards path variation. You can find it by searching “Drunkards Path Variation in Medallion Format by Lucy T Pettway”. This particular quilt made me love the combination of curves and straight line geometry, and attracted my deep love of graphic colors. It was something that inspired me deeply to start quilting, and intimately connected to community and resilience, which is meaningful to Euphoria Quilt Project.I would call it “Joyful Beacon” because it makes me think of a starburst or lighthouse. Yes, I wrote them down and wrote little bullet points for each one to brainstorm. Interestingly - I sat down to think, and before I considered the questions too deeply I drew this design. Then I answered all the questions and drew 5 more designs. But ultimately the first thing I drew was best. Having the guiding questions was incredibly helpful, inspiring, and nice for me. I was curious about using appliqué to create small specific curved shapes. I wanted to try a new technique. My mother who lived across the country in massachusetts helped me choose my design from 6 sketches and helped me choose my colors. She was living with cancer and gave me advice on the phone, even looking at color pictures while having chemo. She passed away a few days ago and this was the last really meaningful project she helped me with. So I feel that the block contains some small part of her spirit in her help and love that she gave me as I made it.
