“Eliot,

Thank you again for letting me make a last minuite submission! This block is made almost entirely form my late grandma’s quilting scraps. I didn’t know she was a quilter until she dies and I found these scraps along with some of her stunning quilts. She is the reason I began quilting less than a year ago. I never came out to her and I don’t know how she would feel about my queerness, but I think she would be proud of me for carrying on her craft. To me, this block represents the freedom and euphoria of gender as a continual metamorphosis. Each summer I have butterflies + they teach me more and more about self-expression. I am so grateful to experince the gift of contributing to this quilt. If you’re ever in Detroit, MI, be sure to reach out! Thank you again for the work you have down and are doing for this project!
