square is titled, “trans is sacred.” when I learned about this group quilt project I had a vision of making a square that looked like a pane of stained glass, reminiscent of church stained glass. I grew up in a religious tradition where trans was not only not sacred, it was not possible. I loved the idea of taking that iconography from my childhood and making it into something that felt affirming and joyful. My original block was hand embroidered and hand stitched, but couldn’t be fed thru the machine. So amy dane took my design and made a machine stitched one so it could still be included. Trans is sacred & queer community is sacred.
